Every morning I pretty much wake up the same way with Emeril looming over me, ready to jab his paw in my eye.
This leads to grumbles from me and persistent yowls from Emeril.
“MEOOOW! Feed me NOOOW!!!!!”
I give him a few pets and roll over in hopes of catching a few more minutes of sleep. Emeril persists with paw jabs, yowls, jumping on and off me and finally by laying on my face.
I push him off. He comes back. I push him off. He comes back. I point out that if he suffocates me – there will be no breakfast. He ponders this for moment and flops back on my face.
I get up.
As much as I enjoy our morning ritual, there is probably a more productive way to start our day. After much thought, I decided that Emeril and I will start a new morning practice: we will state our intentions for the day before we get out of bed.
My intention is…
- To live each day with joy and love
- To celebrate my skills and talents
- To be open to new possibilities
- To laugh out loud each day
- To be present in each moment
I consider the above to be my standard intentions; the things I want to experience every day. Of course, new intentions will be included as needed:
- To get a good haircut
- To get out of bed and go for a walk, or
- To get out of bed tomorrow and go for a walk.
I’m not perfect. I totally intend to get up some day and go for a walk.
