Once upon a time summer television was … well … quite awful. Nothing but reruns. Thankfully that’s no longer the case. Sure, you have some reruns and the usual glut of reality shows, but you also have some great original shows to enjoy.
One of the best shows on TV right now is Breaking Bad. I never watched this superb drama until this season. Mainly, because I didn’t have AMC until recently. The Walking Dead earned a thumbs up, even though I’m not a huge fan of zombies. But when I settled in to watch the premiere of Mad Men—I fell asleep.
Oops.
So I made extra sure to be well-rested for the second episode. But I fell asleep. Again.
Sadly Mad Men and I weren’t meant to be, so onto the next show—Breaking Bad. I wasn’t completely convinced the guy who was regularly outwitted by his three sons on Malcom on the Middle could be so shrewd and despicable. Boy was I wrong. He is captivating. He originally broke bad for somewhat honorable reasons but has slowly morphed into a drug kingpin with no scruples. And he is downright scary.
Now I understand why it has won so many awards. It’s so, so good.
The other shows I’m watching this summer are more light-hearted—Leverage, Burn Notice, White Collar and Suits. Perfect summer fun. For the sci-fi nerd in me, I’m enjoying Alphas and Lost Girl.
I also now realize I spend way too much time watching TV. The good news is at least it’s not just bad reruns. Or worse—Anger Management.
