Last year, my mom and I whipped up a ton of holiday treats. And honestly, we made too many. I’m sure my dad appreciated the leftovers, but it was a lot of work and a little bit spendy when you consider the cost of all the ingredients.
It wasn’t that people didn’t like our treats—they did! Pinkie swear! There were just too many delicious goodies to enjoy, and people were only able to eat one (at most) of every treat before bellies started complaining. Unfortunately, my mom and I baked as though we were the only ones bringing treats. Oops.
So this year, I’m only sharing one holiday candy recipe. You can still find plenty of holiday goodies in my recipe index, but my focus will be on making yummy additions to round out your holiday celebrations. A savory snack to counter all those sweet treats. A beverage to quench your thirst. A decadent breakfast bake for Christmas morning. You get the idea.
I love cheese, so making a cheese ball for the holiday seemed like a natural fit. This one that I lightly adapted from LOL Foodie is so good. The goat cheese adds a little extra punch, but not enough to scare those who prefer Velveeta over an aged sharp cheddar. 😀 The recipe calls for chives, but I do recognize some people are naturally suspicious of anything green. You can certainly omit them, but I would probably add a little onion powder to give it a little extra flavor.
And on the slim chance you have leftovers, they make a fabulous spread for grilled cheese sandwiches!
Ingredients
- 4 ounces goat cheese, room temperature
- 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1-2 Tbsp chives, finely chopped or 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix cheeses and spices together until fully incorporated.
- Spoon cheese mixture onto two pieces of overlapping plastic wrap. Gather up the plastic wrap and form mixture into a ball shape.
- Spread sliced almonds on a plate. Gently unwrap cheese ball and roll in sliced almonds.
- Rewrap cheese ball in the plastic wrap and refrigerate at least two hours.
Enjoy!
