I’ve decided I need to keep my big trap shut. Or start saying things like “I am going to win the lottery” or something similar. After I shared my disappointment in sleeping through the earthquake we experienced a few weeks ago, we had another last Friday. This one I felt.
I was watching Star Trek (the JJ Abrams reboot. I just can’t handle the Shatner versions. Sorry to you purists.) and MaxE was napping in the bedroom when the earth began to move. It was the typical swaying, rolling motion, and my dishes began to shake, which was a first for me. Fortunately, no damage where I lived.
After the earth stopped moving, I ran to check on Max who was still napping on the bench in my bedroom. I sat next to him and told him it was going to be okay, probably more for my benefit than his. 🙂 Mama was feeling mildly hysterical. It’s been a long time since I felt the earth move! We had another aftershock, but Max seemed unconcerned, so I decided to be unconcerned as well.
It’s probably not the wisest to base my response on my cat, but animals always seem to know when something is up with Mother Nature. And honestly, the news acted like it was the “big one” so I really don’t think they were any more helpful. They probably just scared people.
Since moving to California, I’ve been in a handful of earthquakes. All have been minor and happened while I’ve been at home or work, but the strangest place I’ve ever experienced an earthquake was in the shower. As soon it was over, I hopped out and got dressed ASAP. With my luck, I figured the floor would open up and I’d land in my neighbor’s apartment buck naked. I guess that is one way to meet your neighbors. 🙂
Otherwise it was a pretty quiet weekend, minus the occasional aftershock. I caught another stupid cold and my throat is really raw, which makes me exceptionally whiny. If you have any good home remedies to soothe an aching throat, please share! Max has been feeling awfully neglected, which just makes him more mischievous. It’s a good thing I adore him.
I’m sorry that I haven’t been reading any blogs lately. Right now, I’m in a bit of a NyQuil induced haze. Hopefully, in the next day or two, I’ll be back at full speed. Okay, half-speed. Okay, actually remember my name. 🙂
