So … guess what? I did it! I did it! I went a whole hour without smooching Max. Oh wait. No, I didn’t. That is inconceivable! I may not be able to do the impossible, but I kept my promise to you and me by completing my 2 power walks! Woot! Woot! And it was harder than I anticipated because last week was hot in California. I do NOT like hot. It makes me a teeny bit grumpy. Okay, okay a HUGE grump.
I’m not going to lie—I waited until it cooled down to start walking, which thankfully happened over the weekend. It felt really good too, which is not a surprise and why it’s so silly that I have to “force” myself to do it. It’s definitely not a habit yet, but I’m working on it.
Do you workout to music? It’s an absolute must for me. As much as I love the soothing sound of waves, it’s too relaxing and I find my pace slows to a crawl (or more like normal speed. Grandmas walk faster than me. In my defense, they are about 7 inches taller than me too!). My music collection is a getting a bit dated so I need to ask for some iTunes gift certificates for my birthday.
I’m How Old???????
Speaking of my birthday, I had a shocker on Monday when I realized how old I am. Work with me people, I am getting old and forgetful. In my youthful days, I could be a bit belligerent about my age. Not because I was getting older, but because people still thought I was a kid. And I wasn’t, thank you very much. Yes, I can have that drink. Yes, I am tall enough to go on that ride without an adult, because I am the adult!!
My Dad always said that I would miss those days and he was right. Last week, the clerk didn’t even card me when I bought beer for a recipe. I blame that one random white hair I have. I keep yanking it out, but the darn thing keeps growing back!
Anyway, I realized that I will be 39 this year. 39!!!!! Most of the time I still think I’m 37. Now I’m going to turn 39 this summer. ACK!!!! It’s also made me sit back and contemplate my life a bit. As I shared with you at the start of the year, I feel a bit like a hamster on a spinning wheel—in motion but going nowhere. It’s one of the reasons why I decided to get healthy and fit.
39 is by no means ancient, but it also means that a good chunk of my life has already happened. And I don’t want to look back and feel like it has been wasted. So I’m taking stock and getting focused. I tend to try to do too much at once and this time I am going to really look at what I want to accomplish most and work on that … in addition to the getting healthy and fit. So stay tuned!
Next Week’s Exercise Goal
Two power walks at the beach (45 minutes) and 1 strength exercising workout.
whoo hooo! congrats! You’re off to the races! Happy Birthday! It seemed like just yesterday I turned 40 and now I’ll be 44 this year. AHHHHHHHHH! It’s shocking!
Thanks, Tonya! I am excited that I met my goal and am energized to keep on exercising! My birthday is actually this summer. I was just thinking about birthdays and I realized what “number” I was turning this year and had my mini-freak out!. 🙂 It is amazing how quickly time passes.
You go girl!
Doesn’t it feel great after a walk? I love how it feels but I just hate getting started.
My music of choice ranges from christian to classic rock but when I’m working out I have to have hip hop or anything with a beat to get me moving. I jump on the treadmill, put on my headphones and escape :). It’s also therapeutic for me.
I stopped getting carded a long, long time ago LOL.
Don’t fret about getting older….it’s true what they say, you feel better. I’m going to be 44 this year but I can still can with a 35 year-old. 😉
Grey hair freaks me out too girl and that’s why I dye the suckers :). My grandmother told me never pull ’em out or three will grow in its place. 🙂
Awesome accomplishment girl…keep going!
It does feel so good afterwards, it’s definitely the getting up and getting there part that I struggle with! Glad to hear that I’m not the only one! 🙂 I’m a big fan of hip hop when I’m walking too (okay, I’m also fan of it when I’m not walking too) because I need something that keeps me moving! I normally have highlights but I’m rocking my natural color right now. I may have to go back to my highlights since that stupid white hair is driving me crazy. Okay, I’ll stop yanking it out because I definitely DO NOT want 3 white hairs! LOL!
Congratulations on getting 2 power walks done. That is excellent! And I know what you mean, it does feel good, which makes us wonder why we don’t do it more more often.
And oh, how I miss my 30’s LOL
Thanks, Sicorra! I know. I complain bitterly about “having” to exercise, even though I always feel good afterwards. Crazy!
Yay! That’s awesome that you accomplished your goal of walking! 🙂 Keep up the fabulous work! …Oh, and I totally get the age thing; don’t think I didn’t have a mini freak-out about turning 37, lol…
Thanks, Mackenzie! Man, I keep think I “am” 37. 🙂 What am I going to do in a few months when I turn 39? LOL!
You know I am a BIG fan of this goal!! Great job my friend!! xo
Thanks, Shannon! Always appreciate your support! 🙂
YAY!!!!!!!! Good for you, Tanya!!! 39 is going to be a good year for you, my friend. Healthier, happier, peaceful-er. 😉 You are setting your goals and making them happen!
Thanks, Laurie! I truly hope you are right and was just thinking the same thing myself. Everything gets better with age, right??? 🙂
YAY, so proud of you, Tanya!! Last week was for sure hot so I’m glad that you waited until it cooled down – it makes it more bearable! Wow, you are going to be 39?? I thought you were in your late 20’s- early 30’s! You look fantastic!
Awwww…thanks, Anna! Somedays I still feel like I”m in my late 20’s but alas I’m closing in on the big 4-0! I got a year to wrap my head around that, but I figure get healthy now and I’ll start my 40’s in great shape. 🙂
39 is still young! Great job on completing your goal. I think it’s smart to wait until it cooled down! You will stay hydrated that way. There is no reason to go out in the heat and sweat like crazy only to lose some water weight and dehydrate yourself. You did great!
I keep telling myself that … sometimes I buy it and other times … not so much! LOL! Yeah, me too. There was no reason to dehydrate myself or even make myself sick. I tend to get a migraine when it gets super hot, especially if it’s a sudden change in weather. Thanks for the support, Kalen!
