Mother’s Day almost caught me by surprise this year. For some reason I thought it was next weekend but thankfully my spidey sense was tingling so I double-checked. 🙂 Normally I would have featured a special Mother’s Day treat today but … ummmm … I’m behind. So I’m changing things up this year!
Thanks Mom for … Everything
Moms do a ton of things for their kids and my Mom was certainly no different. She:
- Took me to the library almost every week, so I could check out as many books as my little arms could carry. I love to read because of you.
- Made sure my brother and I knew how to swim, so we didn’t have the same fear of water she did. And she eventually learned how to swim herself!
- Taught me how to cook and didn’t complain too hard when I made a huge mess in the kitchen and still doesn’t.
- Took me to my first play (Annie!) and made me fall in love with the theatre.
- Made my dolls amazing homemade clothes. They were seriously the best dressed dolls. I remember saving money, so I could buy “real” clothes for Barbie and always ended up being disappointed in their quality. Mom’s homemade doll clothes were always superior.
- Made me awesome Halloween costumes when I was kid. I particularly remember my Cinderella costume with the tinfoil crown and tiara and my snazzy witch costume.
- Never missed a piano recital, dance recital, band concert, marching band performance, play or anything I was involved in, even if it was peripheral.
- Helped me with all my 4-H projects (and by help, I mean mostly do).
- Took her first plane ride to visit me, although it’s been awhile since she’s been here. Max hasn’t even gotten a chance to wrap her around his big white mitts. (hint. hint.)
And last, but certainly not least, my Mom is always there for me.
Thanks for being such an amazing Mom! I love you!
Happy Mother’s Day!
Aw,
This is such a great way to pay homage to your mom.
I was thinking about my relationship with my oldest daughter. I remember when she was a teen we argued so much. Now that she’s an adult and a mom, we’re BFFs.
Ah the circle of life LOL.
It sounds like your mom is your BFF too. And I think you two have a great relationship! Wish your mom a happy Mother’s day from me :)!
Thanks, Corina! I think there is an unwritten rule somewhere that teenage girls and their moms must go through a period of time when they argue more than get along. Then you grow up and realize how fortunate you are! I do feel very blessed to have such a great relationship with both my Mom and Dad. I know not everyone is so lucky. And Happy Mother’s Day to you too, Corina! Hope the kiddos have something special planned for you.
Beautiful tribute Tanya! You have some wonderful memories all thanks to your mother.
And it sounds like your mom is excellent at sewing. A trait I wish I had. I bet your Barbie dolls looked amazing.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks, Sicorra! I do have many wonderful memories, thanks to my Mom. And she is an AWESOME sewer. It’s also a skill I lack, although she tried to teach me, but it just never took. She is a really good seamstress and crochets beautifully too. I can barely thread a needle. 🙁 Thanks goodness I have my Mom! You have a great weekend too!
I always wanted to go see Annie as a little girl. I was obsessed with it. I did get to see the King and I with Yul Brynner though when I was around 9 in Detroit. Happy Mom’s day to your mom!
Annie has always been one of my favorite musicals. I think I can still sing (badly and off-key) almost all of the songs! It’s been awhile since I’ve actually seen a play, but I still love seeing a live show. Happy Mom’s day to your mom too!
