I was never an athlete in school. I was smart, but liberal arts smart. Science and math equals BORING. I am Asian and have always taken a perverse pleasure in the fact that math is probably my least favorite subject. I’m great at telling you how much 20% off is (yes, I like shopping) but unless the Pi you’re talking about is apple pie, I just don’t care.
What I do love is to be entertained. I love movies, TV, theatre, books and music. I like art but mostly because it’s pretty. I don’t know if I can speak intelligently about it without sounding like some wannabe hipster. But when it comes mainstream media – dude, I’m all over it.
As you can imagine, I’m totally stoked that the new TV season is about to begin. Woot! Woot! Summer TV isn’t quite as awful as it was growing up, but it still leans hard on reality TV, which I dislike. Sorry. But I love me some dramas and comedies.
What’s On My List to Watch This Season
I like to consider myself well-rounded in that I enjoy genre shows, water cooler shows and the more hoity toity award-bait-type shows too. Or the shows you talk about with others to look cool, although you can’t wait to get home and watch the episode of NCIS you DVR’d. So without further ado, here’s my must-watch TV list and please, no judgement. 😉
Monday Nights, I’m Watching …
Gotham albeit a bit tentatively. I’m a HUGE Batman fan. He has always been my favorite superhero. I’d actually be less leery if they were solely focused on Commissioner Gordon’s rise through the GPD. Baby Batman and Catwoman and company don’t really interest me as origin stories are tricky, tricky business. I am interested in what made Gotham a place that needed Batman and eventually led to people like the Joker setting up shop.
Sleepy Hollow was a great surprise last season. It had a lot of hype going into their first season, and I wasn’t really sold on the idea of Ichabod Crane waking up in modern day and the Headless Horseman shooting a machine gun. I’m so glad that I gave the show a chance as it has become one of my favorites.
Tuesday Nights, I’m Watching …
Flash because he had a great introduction in Arrow, and they seem very confident in their take on him. I’m honestly not overly familiar with the character, but it looks like fun, so until it proves otherwise, I’m in.
Person of Interest is a procedural which is a dirty word to lots of people but I love it. It does have more of a serial arc than many procedurals do in my opinion. It is also from Jonathan Nolan who plays an active role in creating all of his brother’s movies, The Batman Trilogy and Inception, etc. and I’m big fan of the Nolan brothers.
Wednesday Nights, I’m Watching …
Arrow because Oliver Queen has great six-pack abs. And oh yeah, the show is really good too. And yes, I like superheroes, although I’ve ironically never been a huge comic book fan.
Supernatural because Dean is now a demon and that’s cool. I actually remember watching the very first episode in Supernatural in a hotel in Houston. I haven’t always watched the show religiously (ha!) but it’s back on the watch live list.
Thursday Nights, I’m Watching …
Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite comedies. I guess I like nerds who like superheroes. And sing Soft Kitty when they are not feeling well. And yes, I sing Soft Kitty when I’m not feeling well (and to Emeril when I used to give him his sub-Q fluids). Big Bang Theory is temporarily moving to Mondays to accommodate Thursday night football, but I listed it here since it will air on Thursdays after football ends.
Elementary doesn’t get the love or respect of Sherlock on PBS, but I really enjoy it. I love that they made Watson a woman and think Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu have great chemistry together. I have never read any of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, which seems like a horrible oversight and something I need to correct asap.
I’m Also Watching …
Those are the main shows I’ll be watching live. I’ll also be checking out the final season of Justified this winter. I also love Archer. It’s may be a cartoon but it is hilarious. I’ll probably check out The Walking Dead too. Sometimes I’m into it and others time I’m not.
Plus … I’m Reviewing Two Shows on TV Fanatic
That’s right! I’ll be reviewing Madam Secretary and The Millers starting next week on TV Fanatic. I’m super excited to share my thoughts on those shows and to connect with fans as we revel in the things they do right and wail about the things they don’t. I’m also grateful that I can use it as an excuse as to why I watch so much TV. 🙂
What shows are you looking forward to watching this season?
